Dezi Phillips (born Grover Phillips on September 28, 1963 in Saginaw, Michigan) was a male R&B singer from the late 80’s. He was the nephew of late blues musician Jimmy Reed.
He attended Saginaw High School where he was a member of the school’s choir and graduated in 1981 During the 80’s, he was in a band called Valentine.
In 1989, he released his debut album “Kickin’ It” on Tabu Records. It’s unknown how or if the album ever charted.
The first single released from the album “Didn’t Do It” didn’t appear to make the Billboard music charts at all.
The follow-up single “Why You Wanna” peaked at #45 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
After that, it seemed as if he had faded into obscurity, but on November 15, 2009, Dezi Phillips passed away at the age of 46.
