4 By Four was an R&B group from New York that consisted of brothers Damen & Lance Heyward (from the Bronx), Jeraude Jackson (also from the Bronx) and Steve Gray (from Queens).

In 1987, they released their self-titled debut album which peaked at #141 on the Billboard 200 and #28 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. wantyouformygirlfriendThe first single from the album “Want You For My Girlfriend” peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 15 weeks. comeoverThe second single “Come Over” peaked at #10 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.

The last single “Don’t Put the Blame on Me” peaked at #72 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks. After that, it seemed as if the group faded into obscurity.

These days, Damen Heyward continues to be active in the music business as a songwriter, producer and vocal coach. He has worked with artists such as Nicki Minaj & Joe. He is also a member of the Force MD’s.

It’s unknown what the other members of the group are up to these days.
