The trio combined hip-hop fashion with a sweet sound that took its cue from ’70s music groups such as the Stylistics and the Chi-Lites. areyoumywomanIn 1987, the trio was featured on the “Less Than Zero” movie soundtrack with a cover version of the Chi-Lites’ song “Are You My Woman” which managed to peak at #71 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks. blackflamesalbumIn 1990, the Black Flames released their self-titled debut album on Columbia Records which managed to peak at #70 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. watchingyouThe first single from the album “Watching You”  peaked at #15 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks, becoming their highest chart appearance to date. dancewmeThe second single “Dance With Me” peaked at #37 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks. letmeshowyouThe last single from the album “Let Me Show You” peaked at #37 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

After that, it seems as if the Black Flames have faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from the trio since.
