imageHoku (born Hoku Christian Ho on June 10, 1981 in Oahu, Hawaii) is a former pop singer from the early 2000s. She is also the daughter of the late entertainer Don Ho. She later dropped her last name after leaving Hawaii.

As a child, Hoku frequently performed with her dad who taught her how to write songs. She later attended & graduated from La Pietra: Hawaii School for Girls.

Hoku caught the attention of songwriter\producer Antonina Armato who encouraged her to move to Los Angeles, California to meet with other producers. At that time, she was attending Point Loma Nazerene University in San Diego, California.

She was later offered a $300,000 contract with Geffen Records. Antonina assisted Hoku in securing the deal and her dad insisted that he & his lawyers review it before signing it.

The song peaked at #27 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #29 on Billboard’s Top 40 Mainstream chart. It also charted in New Zealand and received airplay on Radio Disney. Due to the success of the single, Hoku dropped out of college and began recording her debut album.

imageIn March of 2001, Hoku released the single “Perfect Day” which was featured on the soundtrack to the movie “Legally Blonde.” After that, she planned to working on a follow-up album, but due to disagreements about her marketing & image, Hoku ended up leaving her record label.
imageAfter leaving her record label, nothing much was heard from Hoku until 2007 when she released an EP called “Listen Up” on her own record label, Ola Vista Records. She also opened up for Gwen Stefani’s shows at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center of Gwen’s “The Sweet Escape Tour.”

After that, Hoku seemed to have faded back into obscurity, but according to further research, she is married to her manager Jeremy Clements and it appears that they have a child.

It’s unknown whether or not Hoku plans on releasing new music anytime soon.
