Mary Griffin (born in New Orleans, Louisiana) is a female R&B\dance singer from the late ’90s\early 2000s.
Mary began singing in church with her family and by the time she was a teenager, she wanted to pursue a music career. After being discovered singing at a local club, she was signed to Curb Records in 1997.
During that same year, Mary released her debut single “Just No Other Way (To Love Me)”. It’s unknown how or if it was successful. Her debut album “For the First Time” was supposed to be released, but it appears to have been shelved.
In 1998, Mary appeared in the film “Studio 54” and sang a cover version of Amii Stewart’s song “Knock on Wood” for the film’s soundtrack. She also appeared on various soundtracks for films such as “Conspiracy Theory” and “Driven”.
In 1999, Mary released the single “We Can Get There” which peaked at #31 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Singles chart. The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the 2000 film “Coyote Ugly”.
In 2000, Mary released the single “Perfect Moment” which peaked at #9 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Singles chart and #25 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
In 2001, Mary released her debut album “Purified.” It’s unknown how or if the album charted at all.
During that same year, she released the singles “I Wanna Get Back With You” and “Without You” (which peaked at #6 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Singles chart in 2003).
After leaving her record label, Mary has been touring & performing with artists such as Patti LaBelle and George Clinton. In August of 2011, she recorded the theme song “Speed” and two other songs for “Holiday On Ice.”
These days, Mary is pursuing her solo career and has her own record label, Mahogany Entertainment. She is also planning on releasing a gospel music album and a pop\dance\techno collection sometime in the near future.
