nick-kamenNick Kamen (born Ivor Neville Kamen on April 15, 1962 in Harlow, Essex, England) was an English pop singer and model from the ’80s. He is the brother of session guitarist Chester Kamen.
face-buffaloNick’s modeling career attracted attention when late fashion stylist Ray Petri featured him on the front cover of British magazine “The Face” where he was shown wearing a ski-hat, lipstick, orange roll-neck sweater and aviator sunglasses.

He is most well-known in the United Kingdom for his 1985 performance in Levi Jeans’ “Launderette” TV commercial where he was shown stripping down to stone-wash his blue jeans in a 1950s-style public laundromat, waiting only in his boxer shorts.
each-timeIn 1986, Nick released his debut single “Each Time You Break My Heart” (which was written & produced by Madonna and Stephen Bray). The song peaked at #5 on the UK Singles chart and was certified Silver.

In the United States, the song peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Songs chart and #21 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
loving-you-is-sweeterHis follow-up single, a cover version of the Four Tops’ 1966 song “Loving You Is Sweeter Than Ever” peaked at #16 on the U.K. Singles chart.

nobody-elseThe third single from the album “Nobody Else” peaked at #47 on the U.K. Singles chart and also charted in Ireland & the Netherlands.

The last two singles released from the album “Come Softly to Me” and “Win Your Love” managed to chart in Italy, but failed to appear on the charts in the United Kingdom.
usIn 1988, Nick released his sophomore album “Us” which peaked at #2 in Italy, but not in the United Kingdom.
tell-meThe lead single from the album “Tell Me” peaked at #40 on the U.K. Singles chart and topped the chart in Italy.

The follow-up single “Bring Me Your Love” peaked at #20 in France and #16 in Italy, but didn’t appear to make the charts in the U.K. Nick was featured on the soundtrack to the film “Shag” with the song “Oh What a Night.”

During that same year, Nick released his compliation album “Loving You” which featured the track “Don’t Hold Out” which managed to peak at #32 in Italy. In 1989, he was featured on the soundtrack to the Walt Disney film “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.”
move-until-we-flyIn 1990, Nick released his third album “Move Until We Fly” which charted in Austria, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Switzerland.
promised-myselfThe lead single from the album “I Promised Myself” peaked at #50 on the U.K. Singles chart and topped the charts in Austria and Sweden. It was later covered by musicians such as Dead or Alive, A-Teens, Basshunter and Maggers United. The song was re-released in 2004 where it peaked at #6 in Belgium.
oh-how-happyThe second single “Oh How Happy” peaked at #37 in Italy, but failed to chart anywhere else.

The follow-up singles from the album “Looking Good Diving” and “Agony and Ecstasy” failed to chart at all.
whatever-wheneverIn 1992, Nick released his last album to date “Whatever, Whenever” which flopped along with the singles released from the album: “You’re Not the Only One” and “We’ll Never Lose What We Have Found.”

Since then, nothing much has been heard from Nick Kamen and it appears as if he has faded into obscurity.
