Yaki-Da were a Swedish female pop duo that consisted of singers Linda Schönberg and Marie Knutson. They were formed by music producer & Ace of Base band member, Jonas “Joker” Berggren.
Originally, Jonas wanted to write & produce material for a solo female artist project, but after meeting Marie and Linda, the project became a female duo project.
In 1995, the duo released their debut album “Pride” which charted on the album charts in Sweden at #37 and Norway at #2.
Their debut single “I Saw You Dancing” peaked at #7 in Norway and #32 in Sweden. In the United States, it peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Songs chart.
The only other charting single from the album “Show Me Love” peaked at #16 in Norway while the other two singles “Pride of Africa” and “Deep in the Jungle” did not.
In 1998, Yaki-Da released their sophomore album “A Small Step for Love” which received a very limited release in Korea and Europe.
The lead single released from the album “I Believe” flopped and so did their follow-up single “If Only the World”.
By 2000, the duo had disbanded. These days, it seems as if both Linda and Marie have faded into obscurity. It’s unknown what they’re up to these days.
