Angelina

Angelina (born Angelina Camarillo in 1976 in Union City, California) is a former freestyle/dance-pop music singer from the ’90s.

Angelina attended James Logan High School where she graduated summa cum laude in 1994. She attended Santa Clara University where she studied biology and psychology, and had a summer job welding gas tanks at the NUMMI auto plant to help pay for her tuition.
After hearing about an open audition held by the Upstairs Records label in San Jose, California, she went on to record the song, “Rescue Me” which peaked at #52 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also peaked at #46 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, #9 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 chart and #6 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
In October of 1996, she released her debut studio album, “The Album” which peaked at #45 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Albums chart.
The follow-up single, “I Don’t Need Your Love” peaked at #69 on the Billboard Hot 100, #70 on Billboard’s Radio Songs chart, #21 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 chart and #15 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The third single from the album, “Without Your Love” peaked at #82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #23 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 chart.
The fourth single, a cover version of the Paragons’ 1967 song, “The Tide is High” (which was made popular by Blondie in 1980) titled as “Tide Is High” peaked at #89 on the Billboard Hot 100, #28 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 chart and #46 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
The last single released from the album, “Mambo” peaked at #2 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and #43 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart.

After graduating from college in 1998, Angelina relocated to Houston, Texas with Upstairs Records, putting her teaching ambitions aside. She also met and later married her husband, Anthony Ramos, who works as a personal trainer.
In July of 1999, she released her sophomore album, “Ven A Mi (Come To Me)” which didn’t make the charts at all.
The singles released from the album: “Bailando,” “Tears Are Falling”, “Every Time I Think of You”, “Just Another Day” and “Crazy” didn’t appear to make any impact on the charts at all.
In 2003, she released her last studio album to date, “Love Ain’t Here No More” which failed to make the charts nor did the single, “Gifted”.

In December of 2006 (two days before Christmas), one of Angelina’s brothers, Daniel (a 23-year-old college student) was killed after a gunman shot randomly into a crowd outside of a nightspot in San Leandro, California.

After Daniel’s death, Angelina stopped writing songs, but she continued to tour on the dance music circuit. By 2009, she had retired from the music business.

These days (according to research), Angelina and her husband, Anthony reside in San Jose, California; after working as the director of community engagement at ACE Charter Schools from 2012 to 2019, she currently works as the director of operations at Luna Mexican Kitchen.
