Magda Layna was a female Hi-NRG\dance singer from the early ’80s. Not much information is given about her, but she was signed to Megatone Records.
In 1983, she released her only single to date, a cover version of Gamble & Huff’s song “When Will I See You Again”. It’s unknown how or if the single made any music charts at all.

Javine (born Javine Dionne Hylton on December 27, 1981 in Kensington, London, England) is a female R&B singer who began her music career in the 2000s and is well-noted for representing the United Kingdom at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest.
Javine grew up in Ladbroke Grove in London and for two years, she portrayed the role of Nala in a production of “The Lion King” in London’s West End.
After that, she auditioned for ITV’s reality television show “Popstars: The Rivals” (where young singers sought to be picked to be in a new music group) and made it to the last 6 contestants, but didn’t make the group (which would later be called Girls Aloud). After her time on “Popstars,” she began pursuing a solo music career.
In the summer of 2003, Javine released her debut single “Real Things” which peaked at #4 on the U.K. Singles chart, becoming her biggest hit song to date.
Her follow-up single “Surrender (Your Love)” peaked at #15 on the U.K. Singles chart. In late 2003, she was the opening act for rapper Nelly on the U.K. leg of his international tour.
During that same year, Javine was featured on musician Richard X’s album “Richard X Presents His X-Factor Vol. 1.” on the track “You Used To” which was supposed to be released as a single, but it was cancelled for unknown reasons.
In June of 2004, she released her debut and only album to date “Surrender” which peaked at #73 on the U.K. Albums chart.
The third single which was a cover version of R&B group Jade’s song “Don’t Walk Away” peaked at #16 on the U.K. Singles chart. The a-side (which was a cover version of Carole King’s song “You’ve Got a Friend”) was featured in the film “Garfield: The Movie”.
Despite the moderate success of Javine’s debut album and her singles, she was dropped from her record label, Innocent / Virgin Records in late 2004. During that same year, Javine was the face of Dasani water, but was dropped after the product was withdrawn from the U.K. market due to bad publicity.
In March of 2005, Javine represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest, performing the song “Touch My Fire” which managed to peak at #18 on the U.K. Singles chart. In the end, she finished 22nd in the competition. She also appeared on television programs such as “Never Mind the Buzzcocks,” “The Games”, “The Underdog Show” and “Celebrity Come Dine With Me.”
In 2012, Javine was supposed to appeared in a U.K. touring production of “Disco Inferno”, but it ended up being cancelled. During that same year, she was a contestant on “Celebrity Masterchef”, but was eliminated from the competition.
In October of 2013, Javine teamed up with deejays WAWA and M.A.R.K. to release the track “Never” which has received widespread acclaim and positive feedback from critics.
These days, Javine appears to still be active with her music career, but is mainly focused on working as a personal trainer and working on her fitness brand, Javine Total Fitness.

Glasswurk was an R&B trio from the early ’90s. Not much information is given about them, but one of the members was Theophilus Glass and they were signed to MCA Records.
In 1990, they released their only album “The House That Glass Built.” It’s unknown how or if the album made the charts at all.
The only single released from the album was “She Works Her Body Right”, but like their album, it’s unknown how or if the song charted at all.
After that, it seems as if Glasswurk has faded into obscurity. It’s unknown what the members of the trio are up to these days.

The young Black Teenagers (or YBT) was a hip-hop\rap group from Long Island, New York that consisted of members DJ Skribble (born Scott Ialacci on October 10, 1968 in Queens, New York), Kamron (born Ron Winge), First Born, Tommy Never and ATA (whose real name is Rodney).
Despite the name of the group, neither of the members were black and their name was intended to be a tribute to the black culture that they were influenced by which had some people believe the name to be either ridiculous or offensive.
The group formed in 1989 and were supported by rap group Public Enemy & their producer Hank Shocklee, who signed them as the first act on his record label, SOUL (which stands for Sound of Urban Listeners) Records.
In 1991, the Young Black Teenagers released their self titled debut album. It’s unknown how or if the album charted at all.
The only single to chart from the album “Loud and Hard to Hit” peaked at #25 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart.
The follow-up singles from the album “Nobody Knows Kelli” (which was about TV character Kelly Bundy from the FOX network sitcom “Married…with Children”) and “To My Donna” (which was an attack on Madonna for using the rhythm track of Public Enemy’s song “Security of the First World” for her hit song “Justify My Love”) didn’t chart at all.
After the release of their debut album, Tommy Never left the group and the Young Black Teenagers were left with 4 members (with member A.T.A. contributing more vocally).
In 1993, the Young Black Teenagers released their sophomore (and last) album “Dead Enz Kidz Doin’ Lifetime Bidz” which peaked at #158 on the Billboard 200 and #56 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
The first single “Tap the Bottle” became the group’s only hit song to date, peaking at #55 on the Billboard Hot 100, #6 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart and #73 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks).
The follow-up single “Roll with the Flavor” peaked at #22 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart, but missed the Hot 100.
After that, the Young Black Teenagers were supposed to release their third album, but due to a conflict of interest with their producer and their management, it ended up being shelved and in 1994, the group disbanded.
These days, DJ Skribble is a resident DJ at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has also appeared on various MTV shows, released several mix albums and has worked for radio stations Hot 97 and WKTU.
Kamron is the co-founder of the Marksmen in Manhattan, New York, producing music for television commercials, films, video games and artists such as Ice Cube, 50 Cent, Jill Scott and Jerry Wonder. He also works at the Geejam Studios as a senior audio engineer.
A.T.A. currently works as a manager and a clothing entrepreneur.
First Born is the owner of a tattoo shop called Ringleaderz Ink in Brooklyn, New York.
After Tommy Never left the group, he worked with Clivillés + Cole in The S.O.U.L. S.Y.S.T.E.M. and these days, he runs a wealth management firm in New York.

Xscape was a female R&B group from the ’90s that originally consisted of LaTocha (born on October 2, 1973 in College Park, Georgia) & Tamika (born on (born November 20, 1975 in College Park, Georgia) Scott, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (born Tameka Pope on July 14, 1975 in College Park, Georgia), Kandi Burruss (born on May 17, 1976 in College Park, Georgia) and Tamera Coggins-Wynn.
Tamika and LaTocha’s father, Reverend Randolf Scott was a member of R&B group Scott Three in the early 1970s & were trained by their father to sing at a young age. The Scott sisters sang in church and competed in talent shows in Georgia.
Tiny’s late father, Charles “Speedy” Pope and her late uncle, Joseph Pope formed the R&B group The Tams (which also features her brother, Redd, who released a solo album of his own in 1986).
During high school, the Scott sisters met Kandi, Tiny & Tamera and formed a music group. After Tamera Coggins left the group in 1991, it narrowed down to just LaTocha, Tamika, Kandi & Tiny.
Xscape was discovered by music producer Jermaine Dupri who immediately signed them to his then up & coming record label, So So Def. The group made their debut at Dupri’s birthday party in 1991.
In August of 1993, the group released their debut single “Just Kickin’ It” which peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (making it their only highest appearance on the chart) and topped Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart for 4 weeks, staying on the chart for 25 weeks.
It was also moderately successful in the United Kingdom, Australia & New Zealand. The song was later certified Gold by the RIAA in the U.S., selling 900,000 copies and also earned them a Soul Train Music Awards nomination.
In October of 1993, Xscape released her debut album “Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha” which peaked at #17 on the Billboard 200 chart and #3 on Billboard’s R&B albums chart. The album was critically & commercially successful and was certified Platinum within a year of its release.
In December of 1993, the second single from the album “Understanding” became the group’s second number-one R&B hit, topping the chart for 2 weeks, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. It also peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #24 in New Zealand.
In January of 1994, the third single “Love on My Mind” peaked at #46 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #16 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. It also peaked at #54 on the U.K. Singles chart.
The last single released from the album “Tonight” (which was released in April of 1994) peaked at #59 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks, but missed the Hot 100. Another song from the album “Is My Loving in Vain” peaked at #47 on Billboard’s R&B Airplay chart, staying on the chart for 17 weeks.
During 1994, Xscape appeared in an episode of “Beverly Hills 90210” and appeared on the soundtrack to the film “The Mask.” In 1995, the group was featured on the soundtrack to the film “Panther” on the track “Freedom” (which featured various female R&B artists).
In June of 1995, Xscape released the lead single from their upcoming sophomore album “Feels So Good” which peaked at #32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. It also peaked at #34 on the U.K. Singles chart.
In July of that same year, they released their sophomore album “Off the Hook” which peaked at #23 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. The album was later certified platinum by the RIAA.
The second single from the album, a cover version of The Jones Girls’ song “Who Can I Run To” peaked at #8 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart for a week, staying on the chart for 26 weeks. The song would become Xscape’s last number-one hit to date as a group.
The last single released from the album “Can’t Hang” (featuring rapper MC Lyte)/”Do You Want To” peaked at #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #9 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 16 weeks.
In 1996, Xscape was featured on MC Lyte’s song “Keep On Keepin’ On” which was successful on the pop and R&B charts. A year later, they were featured on soundtracks to the films “Soul Food” and “Love Jones.” They were also featured on the remix to Mariah Carey’s song “Always Be My Baby.”
In February of 1998, the group released the single “The Arms of the One Who Loves You” which peaked at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #4 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 22 weeks & was certified Gold by the RIAA. During that same month, they were featured on R&B group Ol Skool’s song “Am I Dreaming.”
After three years since the release of their previous album, Xscape released their last studio album “Traces of My Lipstick” in May of 1998 which peaked at #28 on the Billboard 200 and #6 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
In July of 1998, the second single from the album “My Little Secret” peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks, becoming Xscape’s last single to reach the top 10 on both music charts.
The last single released from the album “Softest Place on Earth” peaked at #111 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart and #28 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks.
After their third album was released, LaTocha left the group to pursue a solo career which caused the group to go on hiatus although they would later reunite & appeared on the soundtracks to the films “Hardball” & “Big Momma’s House” and were also featured on rapper Lil Bow Wow’s song “Bounce With Me” before going on hiatus again.
In 1999, LaTocha was featured on R&B singer J-Shin’s song “One Night Stand” which was moderately successful. She recorded a solo album called “Solo Flight 404”, but it doesn’t look like it was given an official release (although some copies appear on the Internet).
After the group first went on hiatus, Kandi began focusing on songwriting & music production. In 1999, she and Tiny teamed up together to score TLC’s number-one hit song “No Scrubs.” She would later go on to write songs for Destiny’s Child and Pink. She is also responsible for discovered R&B music act Jagged Edge.
In 2000, Kandi became the first African-American woman to win the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’s Songwriter of the Year award (which was given to her songwriting credits on “No Scrubs” and Destiny’s Child’s song “Bills, Bills, Bills”).
During that same year, she released her first solo album “Hey Kandi” which featured her most successful solo single to date “Don’t Think I’m Not” (which peaked at #24 on the Billboard Hot 100).
In 2005 (after a five-year hiatus), LaTocha and Tamika reunited with Tiny and new member Kiesha Miles to record a new album called “Unchained” and a new single called “What’s Up” was released, but due to lack of promotion from the record label, it was never released and by 2009, it appeared as if Xscape officially disbanded.
These days, LaTocha is still continuing with her solo career and in 2013, she was featured on the TV One network reality series “R&B Divas: Atlanta.” According to research, it appears that LaTocha is working on a new album which has yet to be released.
Meanwhile, her sister Tamika has continued to perform music and is also an actress, appearing in Tyler Perry plays such as “Meet the Browns” and “What’s Done in the Dark”. She also written & produced four songs for Tyler Perry’s film “Daddy’s Little Girl” and the title song to the film “Why Did I Get Married.” Currently, she is touring in a gospel stage play called “Shh Please Don’t Tell.”
Kandi has continued to write & co-write songs for various artists such as Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys and Faith Evans. As of 2009, she stars on the Bravo network reality series “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”. In 2010, she released her second solo album “Kandi Coated”.
Along with her music career, Kandi has also appeared on television series such as “Single Ladies,” “Let’s Stay Together” and “Chef Roblé & Co.” She has also been given several spin-off series such as “The Kandi Factory”, “Kandi’s Wedding” and “Kandi’s Ski Trip.” She also has her own sex toy company called Bedroom Kandi and formed a “sex & relationship” web series on Ustream called “Kandi Koated Nights” in 2011.
Currently, Kandi resides in Atlanta with her husband, Todd Tucker, her two daughters Kaela & Riley and her son, Ace.
As for Tiny, she still continues to be active in the entertainment business. She is married to rapper T.I. (whom she married in July of 2010) and they have three children with together: sons King & Major and daughter Heiress. In 2007, her daughter, Leyah was stillborn at 6 months. Tiny also has an older daughter named Zonnique from a previous relationship and three stepchildren through her marriage to T.I.
In December of 2011, Tiny and T.I.’s reality show “T.I. & Tiny: The Family Hustle” (which focuses on the lives of T.I. and Tiny along with their family) premiered on the VH1 network and as of 2015, the show has aired for 5 seasons.

Redd (born Albert Cottle) is an R&B singer who released one solo album back in the 1980s. He is a member of an R&B group called The Tams and is the brother of singer Tameka “Tiny” Cottle (who was a member of R&B group Xscape).
In 1986, he released his only solo album “It’s Redd” on RCA Records. It’s unknown how or if it charted at all.
The only single released from the album was “Sexy Girls” which also didn’t appear to make any music charts at all.
After that, Redd didn’t release any more solo albums, but as of 2015, he continues to perform live with The Tams.
