NLT

NLT (short for Not Like Them) was a pop music boy band from the 2000s who were discovered by record producer Chris Stokes, who signed them to his record label, TUG Entertainment.

The members of the band consisted of Travis Garland (born on July 26, 1989 in Lubbock, Texas), Kevin McHale (born Kevin Michael McHale on June 14, 1988 in Plano, Texas), Justin Joseph “JJ” Thorne (born on July 13, 1989 in Canyon Country, California) and Vahe “V” Sevani (born on September 1, 1988 in Los Angeles, California).

The band first began after Chris Stokes booked a local dance studio in Los Angeles, California to hold rehearsals for a different music group and Vahe’s parents were the owners of the studio.
In March of 2007, the band released their debut single, “That Girl” which didn’t appear to make the charts at all. The following month, they opened up for The Pussycat Dolls along with singer Chantelle Paige and were featured on the soundtrack for “Bratz: The Movie” with the track “Heartburn.”
The band’s follow-up single, “She Said, I Said (Time We Let Go)” peaked at #65 on the Billboard Pop 100 chart and #36 on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart, making it their only charting single to date.
During that same year, NLT released a Christmas single, “Silent Night.” In 2008, they participated in the Bandemonium Tour (which featured bands VFactory and Menudo).
In April of that same year, they released their last single, “Karma” as a digital download. By 2009, NLT had disbanded and their debut album was never released.

Since then, some of the band members have continued to stay active in the entertainment business.

Kevin McHale went on to achieve fame in the FOX network series “Glee” and hosted the British panel show “Virtually Famous” on the E4 Network from 2014 to 2016. Currently, he is one of four host on Dash Radio’s “Sick of My Own Voice” show.

JJ Thorne went on to be a member of another boy band, One Call (which disbanded in 2011); in 2018, he released an EP called “My Laptop Was Stolen And All I Have Left Are These Songs: Mixtape.”

Travis Garland is now an independent recording artist, songwriter & producer; in 2013, he released his self-titled debut album. Vahe Sevani is married with a son, August; it’s unknown if he is still active with his music career.

Bobbie Cryner

Bobbie Cryner (born Phyllis Cryner on September 13, 1961 in Woodland, California) is a country music singer from the ’90s.

When she was 16 years old, Bobbie moved to Kansas where she was involved in acting & singing. While on a trip to Nashville, Tennesee, she met songwriter Max Barnes who encouraged her to move there.

After moving to Nashville, Bobbie worked in a diner. Her career got a boost when country\bluegrass musician Carl Jackson recommended her to Epic Records and soon, she was opening up for George Strait.
In July of 1993, she released her debut single, “Daddy Laid the Blues on Me” peaked at #63 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 6 weeks.
In August of that same year, Bobbie released her self-titled debut album which didn’t appear to make the album charts.
Her follow-up single, “He Feels Guilty” peaked at #68 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.
The last single released from the album, “You Could Steal Me” peaked at #72 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 3 weeks.

While living alone in Nashville, Bobbie suffered from alcoholism and bulimia which she was able to overcome. She later left Epic Records to sign a record deal with MCA Records.
In January of 1996, she released her sophomore album, “Girl Of Your Dreams” which also didn’t appear to make the charts at all.
The first single, “I Just Can’t Stand to Be Unhappy” which peaked at #63 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks.
The follow-up single, “You’d Think He’d Know Me Better” peaked at #56 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks, making it her only highest charting single to date.
The last single from the album, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” didn’t chart in the United States, but managed to peak at #90 on the country music charts in Canada.

In 1997, Bobbie left MCA Records and later wrote songs for artists such as Suzy Bogguss, Lee Ann Womack, Trisha Yearwood and Lorrie Morgan. These days, it’s unknown what Bobbie Cryner is up to these days and it seems as if she has faded into obscurity.

Enchantment

Enchantment is an R&B group from Detroit, Michigan that first consisted of members Emanuel “E.J.” Johnson, Joe “Jobie” Thomas, Dave Banks, Ed “Mickey” Clanton and Bobby Green.

The group formed in the late ’60s at Pershing High School in Detroit. In 1969, they won first place in a talent contest (sponsored by local radio station WCHB) and got their first recording contract.

In 1970, Enchantment worked with a talent development agency for up & coming artists called Artists International (which was founded by manager Dick Scott, a former executive for Motown Records who managed artists such as Diana Ross and the Supremes & Boyz II Men) where they began developing their stage presence and performed at various gigs around the Detroit area.
In 1973, the group formed an alliance with producer Michael Stokes. In 1975, they released their debut single, “Call on Me” which didn’t make the charts at all. By 1976, Stokes had negotiated a record deal for Enchantment through his association with Fred Frank (who was the head of the Roadshow Records label).
During that same year, the group released their follow-up single, “Come On And Ride” which peaked at #67 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart and #37 on Billboard’s National Disco Action Top 40 chart.
After that, Enchantment changed their focus from disco music to writing ballads. Their third single, “Gloria” peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart (staying on the chart for 24 weeks).
In 1977, the group released their self-titled debut album which peaked at #104 on the Billboard 200 and #11 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
Their next single released from the album, “Sunshine” peaked at #45 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart (staying on the chart for 22 weeks).
In 1978, Enchantment released their sophomore album, “Once Upon a Dream” which peaked at #46 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
The lead single from the album, “It’s You That I Need” topped Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart for a week in February of 1978. It also crossed over to the pop charts where it peaked at #33 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The follow-up single, “If You’re Ready (Here It Comes)” peaked at #14 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.
In 1979, Enchantment released their third album, “Journey to the Land Of… Enchantment” which peaked at #145 on the Billboard 200 and #25 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
The first single, “Any Way You Want It” peaked at #38 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 9 weeks.
The follow-up single from the album, “Where Do We Go From Here?” peaked at #29 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 13 weeks. By 1980, Roadshow Records folded and Enchantment went on to sign a new record deal with RCA Records.
During that same year, they released their fourth album, “Soft Lights, Sweet Music” which peaked at #65 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart. Also around that same year, Bobby Green was replaced by new member Carl Cotton.
The lead single from the album, “Settin’ It Out” peaked at #47 on Billboard’s Disco Top 100 chart (along with the track “Are You Ready For Love”), staying on the chart for 13 weeks.
The follow-up single, “Moment of Weakness” peaked at #47 on Billboard’s Hot Soul Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks. After that, Enchantment went on to sign a record deal with Columbia Records.
In 1982, the group released their fifth album, “Enchanted Lady” which failed to make the album charts at all.
The only single from the album to chart was “I Know Your Hot Spot” which peaked at #45 on Billboard’s Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

In 1984, Enchantment released their last album to date, “Utopia” which also failed to make the album charts at all, but the single, “Don’t Fight the Feeling” managed to peak at #64 on Billboard’s Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 5 weeks.

In 1985, the group released the single, “Feel Like Dancin'” on the Prelude Records label, but it didn’t appear to make any impact on the charts at all.

After that, not much was heard from Enchantment until 1991 when they released the single, “Reflections of the Man Inside” on the Morning Glory record label; it’s unknown how or if the single charted at all.

In 2003, Carl Cotton (who replaced Bobby Green) was shot & killed in 2003 during an altercation with his barber outside of a party store in Detroit.

These days, it appears as if Enchantment is still performing regionally; Joe “Jobie” Thomas left the group and formed his own music group called Enchantment featuring Jobie Thomas.

Kalan Porter

Kalan Porter (born Richard Kalan Porter on November 11, 1985 in Irvine, Alberta, Canada) is a former Canadian pop\rock singer-songwriter who is known for winning the second season of the reality TV singing competition series, “Canadian Idol.”

He began singing as at a young age and his mother took him to music lessons where he learned how to play several instruments such as the violin. He played in a family band where they performed cover songs of rock & pop music.

In 2004, Kalan was preparing to leave home for Montreal, Quebec, Canada to study viola performance at the Schulich School of Music in McGill University, but he decided to audition for “Canadian Idol.” While on the show, he beat out 8,977 other contestants and at the time, he was the only contestant to have never been in the bottom three of two of the competition.
In October of 2004, he released his debut single, “Awake in a Dream” which topped the Canadian Singles chart for 8 weeks, becoming one of the biggest-selling debut singles by a Canadian artist in the history of the Canadian music charts.
A month later, Kalan released his debut album “219 Days” on the Sony BMG record label where it peaked at #4 on the Canadian Albums chart and was certified 8x Platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association.

His follow-up single, “Single” peaked at #9 on the Canadian Singles chart. However, the last single from the album, “In Spite of It All” didn’t match the success of his previous singles, peaking at only #38 on the Canadian Singles chart.

In 2005, Kalan won MuchMusic’s People’s Choice Award for “Favourite Canadian Artist.” In 2006, he was nominated for three Juno Awards: “Artist of the Year,” “Album of the Year” and “Pop Album of the Year.”

During 2006, Kalan took time off before recording his follow-up album to be with his mother, who was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer and his grandmother, who was awaiting surgery.
In 2007, Kalan released his sophomore album, “Wake Up Living” which peaked at #7 on the Canadian Albums chart.

The lead single, “Down in Heaven” peaked at #25 on the Canadian Singles chart,
however, the follow-up singles released from the album, “Destination (Where I Belong)” & “Hurray” failed to chart at all.

After that, not much was heard from Kalan and it seemed as if he faded into obscurity. In 2013, it was reported that he was a graduate student in business at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

According to research, Kalan now works as a software engineer at Coursera in San Francisco, California. His sister, MacKenzie is now a country music singer.

Skye Sweetnam

Skye Sweetnam (born Skye Alexandra Sweetnam on May 5, 1988 in Bolton, Ontario, Canada) is a pop\rock singer who started her career during the 2000s.
Skye began singing & dancing as a young girl and by the time she was a teenager, she began songwriting. In 2000, she recorded a three-song demo with the help of a local music school in her hometown which was later released promotionally.

In 2003, she began working with Canadian music producer & instrumentalist James Robertson on her soon-to-be debut album.
In May of that same year, Skye released the single “Billy S.” which was featured on the soundtrack to the film “How To Deal.” The song peaked at #15 on the Canadian Digital Songs chart and #92 on the France Top 100 chart. In Canada, the music video received airplay on the YTV and MuchMusic television channels.

From July to August 2003, Skye toured in summer camps as part of the “America Camplified Tour” and in September of that same year, she performed at some venues in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & Ontario, Canada.
In March of 2004, she released her follow-up single “Tangled Up in Me” which peaked at #39 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales chart and #37 on Billboard’s Top 40 Mainstream chart. It was managed to make the charts in Italy where it peaked at #39 on the Italy Top 50 chart.
In September of that same year, Skye released her debut album, “Noise From the Basement” on Capitol Records which peaked at #124 on the Billboard 200 and #4 on Billboard’s Top Heatseekers Albums chart.
The last single released from the album, “Number One” didn’t chart, but in Canada, it managed to peak at #22 on the MuchMusic Top 30 Countdown in 2005. A shorter version of the song with different lyrics was used in commercials for the Women’s National Basketball Association (or the WNBA).
One of the tracks from the album, “Superstar” was released as a standalone track on iTunes. It’s unknown how or if the song made the charts at all.

During 2004, Skye toured in North America and Europe as the opening act for Britney Spears’ Onyx Hotel Tour. She was supposed to continue touring with Britney during the summer, but the tour was cancelled after Britney injured her knee. Skye was also featured on the soundtrack to the film “Sleepover” with the track “Imaginary Superstar.”

In August of that same year, Skye performed at the 4th Annual Pantene Pro-Voice Concert in New York City and toured with Ryan Cabrera in November of that same year as well.

Skye has provided the theme songs for various TV shows such as the Disney Channel animated series, “The Buzz on Maggie,” the Canadian animated sitcom, “Wayside” and the Canadian TV series, “Radio Free Roscoe.”

She also covered the song “Part of Your World” (from the Disney film, “The Little Mermaid”) which was featured on the compliation albums “Disneymania 3” and “DisneyRemixMania.” In 2006, Skye provided the singing voice for Barbie in “The Barbie Diaries.”

In 2007, she and singer Tim Armstrong (of punk rock band Rancid) released the single “Into Action” for Skye’s upcoming sophomore album. She was also the opening act for “Canadian Idol” winner Kalan Porter’s tour.
In October of 2007, she released her sophomore album “Sound Soldier” which didn’t appear to chart in Canada, but managed to peak at #161 on the Japan Oricon Weekly International Albums Chart.
The lead single from the album, “Human” was first released on her MySpace page as a sneak peak and the full version of the song was leaked to the Internet on September 8, 2007. It was nominated for a MuchMusic Video Award for “Best Cinematography” in 2008, but it’s unknown how or if the single made the charts at all.

The follow-up single, a rework of the song, “(Let’s Get Movin’) Into Action” was released, but it’s unknown how or if the single made the charts at all. Skye directed two music videos for two tracks from the album: “Music Is My Boyfriend” & “Babydoll Gone Wrong.”

On her MySpace page, Skye released the songs “Stay,” “Boomerang,” “MuSick” & “Wolves and Witches,” and also recorded the song “Lava Rock” for the video game, “Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll.”

In 2011, Skye formed a four-piece heavy metal and punk rock band called Sumo Cyco. They released their debut album, “Lost in Cyco City” in 2014. As of 2018, Skye continues to perform with the band.

Stefy

Stefy was a pop\rock band from Orange County, California that consisted of singer Stefy Rae, keyboardist Jason Gaviati, guitarist Sean Meyer and drummer Jordan Plosky. They originally performed under the name “The Lovely.”
In July of 2006, the band released their debut single, “Chelsea” which peaked at #15 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Songs chart and #18 on Billboard’s Dance\Mix Show Airplay chart. It also managed to peak at #82 on the U.K. Singles chart, making it their only charting single.
The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the film “John Tucker Must Die” along with another song of theirs, “Fool For Love.”
In August of that same year, Stefy released their debut and only album “The Orange Album” which peaked at #12 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic Albums chart and #142 on the UK Albums chart.

The follow-up single from the album, “Hey School Boy” was released promotionally, but didn’t make the charts. Despite that, the song managed to receive generally positive reviews from critics.

Another promotional single, “Orange County” was released, but didn’t chart although it was considered a standout track from the album. Two tracks from the album, “Pretty Little Nightmare” & “Lucky Girl” had music videos (which were made by Stefy Rae) although they were not released as singles.

In 2008, Steffy was dropped from their record label. In 2009, they released four new demos on their MySpace page.
In September of that same year, Stefy Rae announced that a second album wasn’t going to happen unless she was signed to another record label. During that same year, she was featured on the soundtrack to the film “Sorority Row” with the track, “Tear Me Up.”

After that, it seems as if Stefy has faded into obscurity. It’s unknown what the members of the band are currently up to these days.

Las Ketchup

Las Ketchup is a Spanish pop girl group from Córdoba, Andalusia, Spain that originally consisted of the Muñoz sisters: Lola, Lucía and Pilar. They were discovered by flamenco record producer Manuel “Queco” Ruiz who signed them to his record label, Shaketown Music.
In June of 2002, the group released their debut single “The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)” which became a smash hit, topping the charts in practically every country except for the United States where it peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it topped Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs & Tropical Airplay charts.

In France, the song topped the music charts for 11 weeks and sold 1,310,000 copies and in the United Kingdom, it became the 50th best-selling single of the 2000s. It was also certified Platinum and Diamond internationally. It was later re-released as a Christmas song.
In July of 2002, Las Ketchup released their debut album “Hijas del Tomate” which topped the album charts in Spain and Finland. In the United States, it peaked at #65 on the Billboard 200 and topped Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart & Latin Pop chart.

The album was also certified Platinum in the United States, Finland & Mexico, and Gold in France, Switzerland & Greece.
The group’s follow-up single, “Kusha Las Payas” was moderately successful, charting in countries such as Spain, Austria, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland & Romania (where it topped the Romanian Top 100 chart).

After that, Las Ketchup took a break from the public eye to write songs for a new album; during that time, Pilar had a baby.
In 2006, the group returned to the music scene as a four-member girl group with sister Rocío. During that same year, they released their follow-up album “Un Blodymary.” It’s unknown how or if the album charted at all.
The title song peaked at #7 on the Spanish Singles chart. It also managed to chart in Finland, Hungary, Sweden & Swiss. They performed the song at the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest where the song finished 21st with only 18 points.

Even though they haven’t released any other singles since 2006, Las Ketchup continues to perform publicly around Spain and in other countries as well these days. In 2016, they performed “The Ketchup Song (Aserejé)” as an interval at the Swedish music competition, Melodifestivalen.

Angela Via

Angela Via (born Angela Jolene Trullinger Villarreal on December 29, 1981 in Raymondville, Texas) is a former teen pop music singer from the 2000s.

Her father, Tom is of European-American and Native American ancestry, and her mother, Annie is of Mexican and Spanish ancestry. As a young girl, she often listened to local Tejano music.

During her childhood, Angela would lock herself in her bedroom or take her boombox to the porch of her house where she would practice singing for hours. She wrote her first song when she was just three years old.

At the age of 9, she moved to Gresham, Oregon with her family where she began singing in church and school choirs. In 1996, Angela’s father took her to a recording studio where she recorded some of her favorite songs such as “Hero” by Mariah Carey and “Amor Prohibido” by Selena.

In 1997, Angela’s version of Whitney Houston’s song, “You Were Loved” was featured on a regional fundraising album which led to her performing at cultural and charity events throughout the city.

In 1998, she won a talent show sponsored by a radio station in Portland, Oregon and was flown to Los Angeles, California to perform at a party for the film, “The Wedding Singer” at Planet Hollywood.
In 1999, Angela signed a seven-album record deal with the Lava Records label. In 2000, she released her debut single, “Picture Perfect”. The song peaked at #27 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. It also peaked at #27 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.

The single went on to sell more than 110,000 copies and the music video (which featured actor Tom Welling as her love interest) received airplay on The Box and MTV. A Spanish-language version “Retrato Perfecto” was also released.
The follow-up single, “I Don’t Care” peaked at #74 on Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales chart, staying on the chart for 2 weeks. In 2001, Australian pop music singer Delia Goodrem covered the song which managed to peak at #64 on the ARIA Singles chart.

During 2000, Angela was featured on film soundtracks to “Pokémon The Movie 2000” (with the track, “Wonderland”) and “The Little Vampire” (with the track, “Best Friends”).
Angela’s self-titled debut studio album was supposed to be released in June of 2000, but for unknown reasons, the album was shelved.

In 2001, Atlantic Records planned to release an updated version of the album and Angela was supposed to release a new music video, but it ended up being shelved due to Angela’s rejection of a deal because she felt that it was demoralizing to her image in the music industry.
It wasn’t until 2004 that Angela’s debut studio album was given a digital release through RealPlayer’s music store. In 2001, she was featured on the compliation album, “MTV TRL Christmas” with the track, “Christmas Wish”.

In 2002, she recorded a Six Flags commercial where she performed her song, “Papi Chulo” which received airplay in her home state, but later on in the year, she was dropped from Atlantic Records.

Afterwards, nothing much was heard from Angela until April of 2006 when it was announced that she signed a new record deal with Virgin Records.
During that same year, she released two promotional singles: “Speakin’ Spanish” and “Baila Baila (Don’t Let This Party End)”. She was supposed to release a new album titled “Ready to Fly”, but for unknown reasons, the album was never released.

In January of 2008, Angela left Virgin Records due to unknown reasons. These days (according to research) she is married with two daughters and resides in Happy Valley, Oregon. She also appears to be working on new music as well.

Rosalinda

Rosalina (born in San Francisco, California) is a freestyle\dance singer from the late ’90s\early 2000s.

Growing up, Rosalina’s father was a guitarist and she grew up listening to a variety of musical styles. She had her first performance when she was 11 years old and would later perform at weddings, birthdays & family parties.

Later on, Rosalina formed a music group called “Alma de Mexico” where she began performing at corporate events and private parties in San Francisco, and at one of them, she was discovered by a DJ who helped her get a record deal with Illusive Records.
In 1999, she released her debut single, “Give Me All Your Love.” It’s unknown how or if the song charted, but according to research, it did receive some radio airplay.
Her follow-up single, “You Are Everything” didn’t appear to make much impact on the charts at all.

In 2001, Rosalina released her debut and only album, “Feel the Love.” It’s unknown how or if the album ever charted at all. Like her previous single, her third single, “Goodbye” didn’t appear make any impact on the charts at all.

These days, it’s unknown what Rosalinda is up to these days and it appears as if she has faded into obscurity.
