Rochelle

Rochelle (born Rochelle Simons in 1957 in Bermuda) is a Bermudian dance music singer from the mid ’80s.

Rochelle first began singing at the age of 7 when she was mentored by gospel singer Jean-Anne McConnie, who gave her the opportunity to open up for her gospel music group, the Upper Room Quartet.

She began her recording her career when she was 13 years old when she and her sister, Mary were featured on a record by the Mello Tones. In 1979, she moved to the United States to further pursue her music career.

Rochelle later signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records, becoming the first female singer from Bermuda to sign a record deal with a major label.
In 1985, she released her debut single, “Love Me Tonight” which peaked at #18 on Billboard’s Hot Dance\Disco Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.
During that same year, Rochelle released her follow-up single, “My Magic Man” which peaked at #17 on Billboard’s Hot Dance\Disco Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks and became her only highest charting single to date.
In 1988, she released her last single to date, “Who Do You Love” on Atlantic Records. The song peaked at #26 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for only 5 weeks.

Rochelle later gave up her music career after her father, Russell became sick. Although she doesn’t sing very often these days, she did tribute concerts for Michael Jackson in 2009 and for Whitney Houston, Donna Summer & Teena Marie in 2013.

Bas Noir

Bas Noir was a dance\house music duo from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that consisted of Morie Bivens and Mary Ridley (born on March 27, 1973).
Morie and Mary teamed up with producers\singers Rjehi and Rhano Burrell (also known as music duo Burrell), who helped them produce their debut single, “My Love Is Magic” which was released on the Nu Groove Records label.

The song peaked at #73 on the U.K. Singles chart and became an underground club hit in the United States although it didn’t make any music charts.
Their follow-up single, “I’m Glad You Came To Me” peaked at #33 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart. The success of the single attracted the attention of Atlantic Records, who signed the duo to a record deal with the label.
In 1992, Bas Noir released their only studio album, “Ah… Bas Noir” on Atlantic Records. The album failed to make any charts at all.
The lead single, “Superficial Love” peaked at #20 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks.
The follow-up singles from the album: “Addicted 2 Luv” and “Shoe-B-Doo” failed to chart at all. Afterwards, the duo was dropped from Atlantic Records.
In 1995, they released the single, “What’s My Name?” on the Talkin’ Loud record label under the name, Native Sol. Afterwards, the duo appeared to have faded into obscurity.

On January 4, 2020, Mary Ridley died from unknown causes. She was 46 years old at the time of her death. It’s unknown what Morie Bivens is currently up to these days.

Yolanda Milla

Yolanda Milla is a freestyle\dance music singer from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Not much background information is given about this artist, but she was signed to Warlock Records.
In 1989, she released her debut single, “When The Pieces Fall” which didn’t appear to make any music charts.
A year later, Yolanda released her follow-up and last single to date, “Never Say Never” which also failed to chart as well.

Afterwards, it seems as if Yolanda Milla has faded into obscurity. It’s unknown what she’s up to these days.

Solid was a freestyle\dance music trio from the late ’80s that consisted of singers Ileana Fraticelli, Sharon Diaz and Yvette Phar. Not much background information is given about them, but they were signed to MicMac Records.
In 1988, they released their only single, “Loving You” (which was co-written by Ileana). The song failed to make any impact on the music charts at all. Afterwards, it seemed as if Solid faded into obscurity.

In the ’90s, Ileana Fraticelli was a member of the short-lived music trio, Around the Way, who scored minor success in 1993 with the song, “Really Into You”. These days, it’s currently unknown what the members of Solid are up to.

Eileen Flores is a freestyle\dance music singer from the late ’80s and early ’90s. Not much information is given about this artist, but she was originally signed to MicMac Records.
In 1989, she released her debut single, “Touch Me With Your Heart” which peaked at #21 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 9 weeks. The song also peaked at #21 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart.
In 1990, Eileen released her follow-up single, “I Have Dreams” which didn’t make the charts at all. A year later, she released her last single to date, “Got 2 Have Your Love” on the Martru Records label which failed to make any music charts.

Afterwards, it seems as if Eileen has faded into obscurity. It’s currently unknown what she’s up to these days.

Dyan Buckelew is a dance music singer from the mid-’80s. Not much background information is given about this artist.
In the late ’70s, she was a member of a rock music band called Rox; in 1979, they released their only album, “Tantrum” in Japan only.
In 1984, Dyan was featured on music duo Video’s song, “Somebody (Hey Boy)” under the name Buckelew. The single didn’t appear to make any music charts at all.
In 1988, she released the single, “Gotta Do” on Sleeping Bag Records which also failed to make any music charts either.

Afterwards, it seems as if Dyan Buckelew has faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her since the ’80s.

Rios Sisters

The Rios Sisters are a freestyle\dance music duo from the late ’80s that consists of identical twin sisters Awilda and Mildred.

The duo received their education in Puerto Rico and New York where they became fluent in English and Spanish. They began performing at the age of 5 when their mother enrolled them in ballet classes.

In later years, the Rios Sisters made their professional debut in New York as back-up singers in clubs such as The Limelight, the Cat Club and Passions. They later met music producer Mickey Garcia and got a record deal with MicMac Records, becoming one of the first recording artists on the label.
In 1987, they released their debut single, “You” (which they wrote and arranged themselves). The single didn’t appear to make any music charts, but it allowed them to perform in places such as New York, Florida, California and Puerto Rico.
In 1988, the Rios Sisters released their follow-up single, “Hold Me” which didn’t make any impact on the music charts. A year later, they followed up with their third single, “Are You Looking For Love”.
In 1991, the duo released the single, “I Don’t Want You Back” on the Onna Roll record label which failed to chart at all.
Throughout the years, the Rio Sisters continued to perform live and release music. In 2011, they released the single, “Love Stays”.
In 2014, they released the single, “Don’t You Criticize”. Two years later, they released their greatest hits compliation album digitally.

These days (according to research), it appears as if The Rios Sisters are still active with their music career. In 2022, they announced the release of an autobiography called “Being Boricua”.

LaChandra

LaChandra (born LaChandra Aarons in Brooklyn, New York) is a dance music singer from the ’80s. Not much information is given about this arist, but she did backing vocals on productions by New Jersey music duo, Blaze.
In 1987, she released her debut single, “Shy Girl” on the Jump Street Records label which didn’t appear to make any music charts at all.
In 1988, she released her second single, “Just Started” on the Movin’ Records label. The song peaked at #25 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.

Afterwards, it seems as if LaChandra faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her in the years since.

David Alexis

David Alexis was a male R&B singer from the early 90’s. Not much information is given about him, but he released only one single before fading into obscurity.

In 1991, he released the single, “You Are the Lady.” It’s unknown how or if the single ever charted.

After that, it seemed as if David had faded into obscurity. Nothing has been released from him since.

Debra Torré is a freestyle\dance-pop music singer from the mid to late ’80s and early ’90s. Not much background information is given about this artist, but she was a member of a music group called Girls-In-Control.
In 1986, she released her debut single, “is It Too Late For Tomorrow” (under the name Torré) on the Blue Chip record label. The song didn’t appear to make the charts at all.
In 1989, Debra released her only studio album, “Step It Out” on the Esquire Records label. The lead single, “Conceal Your Love” didn’t make any music charts.
The follow-up single, “Fast Lane” (which was released in 1992) also failed to make any music charts either. Afterwards, it seems as if Debra Torré faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her since the ’90s.
