Rochelle (born Rochelle Simons in 1957 in Bermuda) is a Bermudian dance music singer from the mid ’80s.
Rochelle first began singing at the age of 7 when she was mentored by gospel singer Jean-Anne McConnie, who gave her the opportunity to open up for her gospel music group, the Upper Room Quartet.
She began her recording her career when she was 13 years old when she and her sister, Mary were featured on a record by the Mello Tones. In 1979, she moved to the United States to further pursue her music career.
Rochelle later signed a record deal with Warner Bros. Records, becoming the first female singer from Bermuda to sign a record deal with a major label.
In 1985, she released her debut single, “Love Me Tonight” which peaked at #18 on Billboard’s Hot Dance\Disco Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.
During that same year, Rochelle released her follow-up single, “My Magic Man” which peaked at #17 on Billboard’s Hot Dance\Disco Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks and became her only highest charting single to date.
In 1988, she released her last single to date, “Who Do You Love” on Atlantic Records. The song peaked at #26 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for only 5 weeks.
Rochelle later gave up her music career after her father, Russell became sick. Although she doesn’t sing very often these days, she did tribute concerts for Michael Jackson in 2009 and for Whitney Houston, Donna Summer & Teena Marie in 2013.
