brie larson

Welcome to another edition of my “Celebrities Who Released Music” series which covers celebrities (such as actors, actresses, models, etc) who released music that you might not even know existed. Today, this entry covers actress Brie Larson.

In the 2010s, Brie Larson is known for her roles in films such as “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Room,” “Kong: Skull Island,” “21 Jump Street”, “Captain Marvel” & “Avengers: Endgame”, but during the 2000s, she had a short-lived music career as a teen pop singer.

Brie became interested in music when she was 11 years old when she learned how to play the guitar. A music executive encouraged her to start writing her own songs, and she began self-recording & uploading tracks to her own website.

After she was not cast in the role of Wendy Darling in the 2003 film, “Peter Pan,” Brie wrote & recorded a song called “Invisible Girl” which received airplay on the KIIS-FM radio station. She soon signed a record deal with Tommy Mottola’s Casablanca Records label. (At the time, she and Lindsay Lohan were the only artists signed to the label.)
Brie Larson ‎– Finally Out Of P.E.In October of 2005, Brie released an album called “Finally Out of P.E.” which sold a total of 4,000 copies in the United States.

She worked with various songwriters on the album such as Holly Brook (also known as singer-songwriter Skylar Grey), Pam Sheyne (who has written songs for artists such as Christina Aguilera & Dream) and Lindy Robbins (who has written songs for artists such as Demi Lovato & Fifth Harmony) along with writing her own songs as well.
Brie Larson ‎– She SaidThe lead single from the album, “She Said” peaked at #31 on Billboard’s Hot Single Sales chart and the music video received some airplay on MTV’s “Total Request Live.” The song was also featured on the soundtrack to the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Go Figure.”
Brie Larson ‎– Life After YouHowever, the follow-up single from the album, “Life After You” failed to make any impact on the charts at all.

Brie went on tour with Jesse McCartney and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade; however, she later became disillusioned with her music career and went on to focus on acting full-time. According to her: “I wanted to write all my own songs, and [the recording company] were afraid of that. I wanted to wear sneakers and play my guitar—they wanted heels and wind blown hair.”

Although she hasn’t released a new album in the years since, Brie still continues to sing every now and then (according to research); in 2019, she posted cover versions of songs by Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande on her Instagram account.

Carmen ElectraWelcome to another edition of my “Celebrities Who Released Music” series which covers celebrities (such as actors, actresses, models, etc) who released music that you might not even know existed. Today, this entry covers model/actress/TV personality Carmen Electra.

Before she became popular on the hit TV show, “Baywatch” and well-known for her marriage to former NBA player, Dennis Rodman, Carmen started her career as a singer & dancer, which first began in 1990. In 1991, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where she met Prince and signed a record deal with Prince’s Paisley Park Records label.
Carmen Electra albumIn February of 1993, Carmen released her self-titled album which was designed by Prince to promote her as his latest protégée at the time as a sexy female rapper.
Carmen Electra ‎– Everybody Get On UpHowever, the album was not well-received, failing to make any album charts at all. The only song from the album to make the charts was “Everybody Get On Up” which peaked at #33 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart.

Two more songs from the album, “Fantastia Erotica” & “Go Go Dancer” were released as singles, but didn’t make the charts at all.

In interviews, Carmen pointed out that during the time of her album’s release, Prince was having issues with Paisley Park Records, which could’ve possibly contributed to its failure on the charts. After her recording career came to a pause, she occasionally performed with The Pussycat Dolls as a dancer.

Although Carmen resumed her recording career in the 2010s, releasing four singles: “I Like It Loud” (in 2012) & “Bigger Dick” (in 2013), “WERQ” & “Around the World” (both in 2014), she has not released a new studio album since the ’90s.
