Holly Valance

holly-valanceHolly Valance (born Holly Rachel Vukadinović on May 11, 1983 in Fitzroy, Victoria, Australia) is an Australian actress and singer that first began her music career in the 2000s.

As a teenager, Holly starred on the Australian soap opera “Neighbours” (which pop singer Kylie Minogue also used to star in), but left the show in 2002 to pursue a career in music.
kiss-kissIn April of 2002, Holly released her debut single “Kiss Kiss” (which is an English-language version of Turkish singer Tarkan’s song “Şımarık”). The song became a hit, topping the charts in the U.K., Turkey and her native Australia. It also made the top 10 in seventeen other countries as well. It was also nominated for 4 ARIA Music Awards.

The director’s cut of the music video for “Kiss Kiss” was notable for Holly appearing to be dancing nude, but Holly revealed that she was topless and wearing flesh-colored underwear. It was digitally retouched, adding strategically placed lighting effects.
r-120310-1236212046In September of 2002, she released her second single “Down Boy” which peaked at #2 on the U.K. Singles chart and #3 on the Australian Singles chart. It was also moderately successful in other countries.
footprintsOn October 14, 2002, Holly released her debut album “Footprints” which peaked at #9 on the U.K. Albums chart, #15 on the ARIA Albums chart, #17 on the Turkish Albums chart and #19 on the Japan Albums chart.
naughty-girlThe last single from the album “Naughty Girl” (which was released in December of 2002) peaked at #3 on the ARIA Singles chart and #16 on the U.K. Singles chart. It was also moderately successful in other countries as well.

The fourth (and planned last) single “Tuck Your Shirt In” was supposed to be released in the U.K. in March of 2003, but due to the low sales from the previous album & Holly beginning to work on her follow-up album, it was cancelled.
state-of-mindIn October of 2003, Holly released the lead single from her second album “State of Mind” which peaked at #8 on the U.K. Singles chart and #14 on the ARIA Singles chart which didn’t match the success Holly had from the lead single of her debut album.
state-of-mind-albumOn November 6, 2003, she released her sophomore album “State of Mind” which peaked at #60 on the U.K. Albums chart and #57 on the ARIA Albums chart. It also did well in Japan, peaking at #12 on the album charts.

During that same year, Holly fired her then-manager Scott Michaelson (who is the owner of Biscayne Partners Pty Ltd.). Biscayne sued her for damages and won the case.

Due to the poor sales of her second album and the legal issues she faced, Holly was reportedly dropped from her record label, but she denied the reports, stating:

I asked to be released, but Warner refused, so I hung out for a year until the contract expired. We parted on good terms.”

After that, Holly’s music career came to an end and she began focusing on acting. According to an interview she did with Men’s Style Magazine about her music career, she said:

No one can make any money. It was a really tough slog and I had a good go at it, but it was difficult. You put in so much effort and put in so many long hours for not much return. I was making all my money from endorsements and appearances, but I didn’t make that much from the actual record sales. I think everyone is suffering in the music industry. It wasn’t just me. I do something until it’s not fun any more and then move on. Music wasn’t fun any more.”

Since then, Holly has appeared in films and various television shows such as “Prison Break”, “CSI Miami” and “Entourage.” She was also a contestant on the TV show “Strictly Come Dancing” and a judge on the show “Shopaholic Showdown.”

Holly is also married to billionaire British property developer Nick Candy and has a daughter, Luka.
