Rachel Proctor .jpgRachel Proctor (born Rachel Christine Proctor on August 11, 1974 in Charleston, West Virginia) is a country music singer-songwriter from the 2000s.

Rachel appeared in local productions of “The Sound of Music” and “Annie” while in grade school. By the time she was in junior high, she signed with a management company in New York that also managed boy band New Kids on the Block. She also competed on the TV talent show, “Star Search.”

By the time she was 18 years old, Rachel had begun writing songs and performing in local bands as well. She moved to Nashville, Tennessee in the mid-’90s in pursuit of a record deal.

By the late ’90s, Rachel had written songs for artists such as Sonya Issacs, The Lynns, Kortney Kayle and Martina McBride (whose song “Where Would You Be” peaked at #3 on the country music charts.) In 2002, Rachel sang backing vocals on Blake Shelton’s song “Ol’ Red.” During that same year, she was signed to BNA Records.

In 2003, she released her debut single, “Days Like This” which peaked at #24 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 21 weeks.

The follow-up single, “Didn’t I” peaked at #43 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.

In March of 2004, Rachel released her third single, “Me & Emily” which peaked at #18 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 22 weeks, making it her highest charting single to date. The song also managed to peak at #10 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
Where I BelongIn August of that same year, she released her debut album, “Where I Belong” which peaked at #66 on the Billboard 200 and #8 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

The title song peaked at #37 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 11 weeks.

After that, Rachel left BNA Records to return to songwriting full time; she also released two independent albums: “Only Lonely Girl” (in 2007) and “What Didn’t Kill Me” (in 2009).

In the years since, she has written songs for Jessica Simpson, Jesse Lee, Lauren Alaina, Jennette McCurdy, Jewel, Jana Kramer and Gloriana. According to research, it appears as if Rachel continues to record and write music these days.
