Archive for November, 2022

Hello, music fans!
Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I have an announcement to make.

After much contemplation, I have decided to shut down the Blogger version of “Rare and Obscure Music” on December 31, 2022. The reason is because I rarely use the Blogger version anymore and I wanted to have all of my blog entries on one website instead of going back and forth between WordPress and Blogger.

Before you ask where you can find my past blog entries, they are all available under the Archive section of the blog. I was able to import all of the blog entries from Blogger to WordPress, so you will be able to view all of them from 2008 (when the blog first started) to now.
Keep in mind that some of the past blog entries need to be edited with updated information and images. Between editing the blog entries and working on my Chicago Blackhawks blog, I may not be posting new entries frequently.

Sincerely,
The Music-Know-It-All

JJ White

JJ White was a female country music duo from Yuba City, California that consisted of sisters Janice and Jayne White.

During their childhood, Janice and Jayne formed a gospel music group, The White Sisters along with their sisters, Joetta and Barbara. They performed at various venues and on Pat Robertson’s TV show on the PTL network.

As a teenager, Jayne won first place at a teen talent contest at the California State Fair in 1978, singing her rendition of Debby Boone’s 1977 song, “You Light Up My Life.”

During the late ’70s and ’80s, Jayne, Janice and Barbara formed a secular music group called Satin Steele, playing in local nightclubs and venues. Barbara later left the group, but Jayne and Janice continued to perform together as a duo.
They signed a record deal with Curb Records in 1989 and released their debut studio album, “Janice and Jayne” in 1991. Although the album didn’t chart, it received a “B” rating from Entertainment Weekly magazine.
The lead single from the album, “The Crush” peaked at #69 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 4 weeks.
The second single, “Heart Break Train” peaked at #73 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for only a week.
In 1992, JJ White released their last single from the album, “Jezebel Kane” which peaked at #63 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart (staying on the chart for 4 weeks), making it their only highest charting single to date.
In 1992, they released their last single to date, “One Like That” which peaked at #64 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, staying on the chart for 3 weeks.

The duo performed in concerts nationwide and in Europe with other country music artists such as Brooks and Dunn, Billy Ray Cyrus and the Nitty Gritty Band.
Afterwards, nothing much was heard from them until 1999 when they independently released their sophomore and last album, “Scratches on Her Knees”.

Jayne performed in local theater productions in Marysville, Washington such as “Oliver” and “Gypsy Rose”. She was also married to Steve White, a high school teacher and adopted three children. In July of 2003, she died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 40.

As for Janice, it’s currently unknown what she’s up to these days and it appears as if she has faded into obscurity.

Fiona Day

Fiona Day is a dance music singer from the ’90s. Not much information is given about this artist, but she was signed to the Dome Records label.
Her only single, “Old Fashioned Lovin'” peaked at #38 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play Singles chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks.

Afterwards, it seems as if Fiona Day has faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her since the ’90s.

Natasha’s Brother was a pop music duo from New Jersey that consisted of singer Robert Matarazzo and keyboardist William Mallory. Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to Atlantic Records.
In 1990, they released their debut and only album, “Always Come Back To You.” The album didn’t appear to make any Billboard album charts at all.
The title song (featuring singer Rachele Cappelli) was released as the lead single from the album. The song peaked at #12 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart, staying on the chart for 18 weeks.

It was featured in the film, “The Nutcracker Prince” and became popular during the first Gulf War with deployed troops and their families.
The duo’s follow-up single, “Hand On Your Heart” failed to chart nor did the last single, a cover version of Hall & Oates’ 1975 song, “Sara Smile”.

Afterwards, it seemed as if Natasha’s Brother faded into obscurity. These days (according to research), Robert Matarazzo appears to still be active in the music business as a solo artist. William Mallory is also still involved in music and resides in Montclair, New Jersey.
