Cedric Sims

Cedric Sims was an R&B singer from the late ’80s. Not much information is given about him, but he was signed to Warlock Records.

In 1989, he released his only single “Gettin’ Serious.” It’s unknown how or if the single made the charts at all.

After that, it seems as if Cedric faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from him since.

She

imageShe (born Sheila Spencer in Brooklyn, New York) was a female rapper from the early ’90s.

Not much information is given about her, but she was signed to Warlock Records.

In 1990, She released her only single “Hello Stranger” (featuring jazz musician Kim Waters) which managed to peak at #40 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 10 weeks.

After that, it seems as if She has faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from her since the ’90s.

imagePressure Drop was a hip-hop\dance music act from the ’80s that was assembled by Larry Joseph.

Not much information is given about them, but they were signed to Tommy Boy Records.

In 1983, they released their only single “Rock the House (You’ll Never Be)” peaked at #74 on Billboard’s Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 7 weeks.

After that, it seems as if Pressure Drop faded into obscurity. Nothing much has been heard from them since.

Tené Williams

imageTené Williams (born Tiffany Williams in Harlem, New York) is an R&B singer from the ’90s.

Tené grew up in Akron, Ohio where her grandmother (who was a radio promoter) advised her to take advantage of every opportunity to perform publicly.

She later competed at “Amateur Night” at the Apollo Theater which she won three times. She was offered a record deal when she was 16 years old, but declined it to finish up school.
After completing high school, Tené signed a record deal with Pendulum Records. In 1993, she released her self-titled debut album which didn’t appear to make the charts at all.
The lead single, “Give Him A Love He Can Feel” peaked at #87 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #30 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. It also peaked at #28 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Club Play chart, staying on the chart for 7 weeks.
The follow-up single from the album, “Just A Matter of Time” peaked at #21 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot R&B Singles chart.

After her record label failed to support her, Tené left the music business to concentrate on her religious beliefs. During that time, she married producer Kyle Bynoe, started a family. moved back to Akron, Ohio and became involved in ministry.

She also provided guest and backing vocals on occasional gospel recordings, and founded a nonprofit organization called Gabby’s Heart which advocates for families that are dealing with children’s heart conditions like her daughter has.
In 2011, Tené returned to music and released the single, “Your Love Completes Me.” By 2013, she changed her stage name to Tiffany Bynoe and released the single, “Blessed by the Best.”

Her follow-up album under her new name was scheduled to be released sometime in 2016, but for unknown reasons, it never happened.

These days, Tené continues to perform and release music. She is also a life coach, entrepreneur and has written a book called “Made Extraordinary M.E.”.

L.A. Ganz

imageL.A. Ganz (pronounced “el-e-ganz”) were a hip-hop\rap group from Louisville, Kentucky that consisted of members Corwyn Hodge, Adrian Williams, Larry Young and Warren Killebrew.

In 1996, they released their only single “Like a Playa” which peaked at #89 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 5 weeks. The song also peaked at #75 on the U.K. Singles chart.

The group was featured on movie soundtracks such as “Booty Call,” “The Long Kiss Goodnight,” “Phat Beach” and “Dangerous Ground.” After that, it seems as if L.A. Ganz faded into obscurity.

Corwyn Hodge has worked with Patti LaBelle & Nicole Scherzinger. These days, he is a member of a five-man vocal group called MO5AIC.

It’s unknown what the other members of L.A. Ganz are up to today.

imageThe Lady of Rage (born Robin Yvette Allen on June 11, 1975 in Farmville, Virginia) is a female rapper & actress.

She is known for collaborating with rappers such as Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg & has been described as “one of the most skillful female MCs” with a “mastery of flow” & “hard-core lyrics.”

The Lady of Rage met Shahkim (from rap group the Original Outlaw Brothers) in the summer of 1988. After convincing her that he could get her a record deal, he brought her to his group.

The Original Outlaw Brothers made the Lady of Rage a member of their group. They signed to a production deal with the L.A. Posse (who produced several hits for LL Cool J).

In 1991, the Lady of Rage met rapper Chubb Rock & provided vocals on his album “The One” on the track “Bring ‘Em Home Safe” under the name “Rockin’ Robin.”

Dr. Dre discovered her after the L.A. Posse let him listen to some of their tracks on their album & the vocals that the Lady of Rage recorded for their 1991 album “They Come in All Colors.”

The Lady of Rage appeared on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album “The Chronic” on several tracks & a year later, she appeared on Snoop Doggy Dogg’s album “Doggystyle.” imageIn 1994, she scored a hit with the single “Afro Puffs” (which was featured on the “Above the Rim” soundtrack).

The song peaked at #57 on the Billboard Hot 100, #5 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Singles chart, #5 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #31 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 15 weeks.

The Lady of Rage also appeared on Tha Dogg Pound’s album “Dogg Food” on the track “Do What I Feel.”

Even though she made various appearances on soundtracks & albums from her Death Row Records labelmates, she didn’t release an album until 1997. imageOn June 24, 1997, the Lady of Rage released her debut solo album “Necessary Roughness” which peaked at #32 on the Billboard 200 and #7 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.

The original title of the album was called “Eargasm” and was pushed back continuously (it was meant to have been the next album on Death Row Records after “The Chronic” album & later after “Doggystyle”). image

imageThe two singles from the album “Get With Da Wickedness (Flow Like That)” and “Sho Shot” didn’t appear to make the Billboard charts at all.

After the release of her album & appearing on Gang Starr’s single “You Know My Steez (Three Men and a Lady Remix)” (which also featured Kurupt), the Lady of Rage left Death Row Records & later the music business to focus on acting. She appeared in an episode of Nickelodeon’s “Kenan & Kel.”

She appeared on the WB’s “The Steve Harvey Show” as Coretta Cox from 1997 to 2000. She also appeared in the movie “Next Friday.”

In 2000, the Lady of Rage appeared on Snoop Dogg’s album “Tha Last Meal” on the track “Set It Off,” had a solo track called “Unfucwitable” on the album “Snoop Dogg Presents Doggy Style Allstars Vol. 1” and “Batman & Robin” which appeared on Snoop Dogg’s album “Paid tha Cost to be Da Boss.” imageThe Lady of Rage later signed to Shante Broadus’ record label, Boss Lady Entertainment and released a mixtape called “From VA 2 LA” in 2005.

She made appearances on albums such as “Bigg Snoop Dogg Presents Welcome to the Chuuch: Da Album” and “Cali Iz Active.”

In 2008, the Lady of Rage performed with female rappers MC Lyte, Yo Yo and Salt & Pepa at the BET Hip Hop Awards.

In the summer of 2010, she joined Snoop Dogg during his headlining set at the “Rock the Bells” festival concert series along with Warren G, RBX and Tha Dogg Pound for a performance of the entire “Doggystyle” album.

These days, the Lady of Rage is part of the group N’Matez (along with rappers Daz Dillinger, Kurupt and RBX). She is also part of the FEM (or Females Earning Money) Movement along with female rappers Babs, Lady Luck and Amil.

Ladae

imageLadae were a male R&B group from Brooklyn, New York that consisted of Darren Benbow, Chris Kellam, LaQuentis Saxton and Levar Wilson.

They were discovered by former Uptown Records executive James Maynes who helped the group during their demo process which helped them secure their first record deal with Polydor\Island Records. imageIn 1994, Ladae released their debut album “The Moment.” It’s unknown how or if the album made the charts at all.
imageThe first single from the album “Bye Bye” didn’t appear to make the Billboard music charts at all.
imageThe follow-up single “Deep Down” peaked at #92 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for only 4 weeks.

Due to misunderstandings about their creative freedom, Ladae left their record label.

In 1996, Ladae met Al B. Sure and got a record deal with his label, Absolute Records (which was under Andre Harrell’s Motown Records). imageDuring that same year, they released their self-titled sophomore album which didn’t appear to make the Billboard album charts.
imageTheir highest chart appearance to date was the single “Party 2 Nite” which peaked at #107 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, #25 on Billboard’s Hot Dance Music\Maxi-Singles Sales chart and #44 on Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart, staying on the chart for 17 weeks.

Chill Factor

imageChill Factor was an R&B trio from Chicago, Illinois that consisted of vocalist Ruben Locke, guitarist Rico McFarland and keyboardist Gregg Owen.

Chill

imageChill was an R&B group from the ’80s. Not much information is given about them, but the lead singer was Michael Ian Ellis.
imageIn 1985, they released their debut single “Lady Seduction.” It’s unknown how or if the single made the chart at all.
