Luke & Q

luke & qLuke & Q were an R&B music duo from New Orleans, Louisiana that consisted of Luke Boyd (born Luke James Boyd on June 13, 1984) and Quinten Spears.

The duo met in the 8th grade after Luke overheard Q singing Ginuwine’s song “Same Ol’ G.” During high school, they were part of a musical trio called Upskale. After graduating from high school, Upskale disbanded and Luke relocated to Los Angeles, California.

After forming the duo, Luke & Q first began performing at local events and eventually sang background vocals for R&B singer Tyrese and later became one of the opening acts for his concerts.

Through Tyrese, Luke & Q met with production duo Damon Thomas & Harvey Mason Jr. of the Underdogs and were introduced to Clive Davis, who subsequently signed them to the J Records label.

In 2005, the duo released their debut single “Ya Heard Me” (featuring rapper Lil’ Flip); they followed it up a year later with the track “My Turn.” It’s unknown how or if any of the singles made any impact on the charts.

After Luke & Q disbanded, Luke James began honing his skills as a songwriter; he has written songs for artists such as Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Keri Hilson, Britney Spears, Tank, Charlie Wilson, Olly Murs, JoJo and Nathan Sykes.

These days, Luke is still active in the music business, having released two albums and two mixtapes. He has starred in the BET Network television miniseries, “The New Edition Story” and the FOX musical drama series, “Star.”

It’s unknown what Quinten Spears is up to these days and it seems as if he has faded into obscurity.

Blaine Larsen

Blaine LarsenBlaine Larsen (born on February 2, 1986 in Tacoma, Washington) is a country music artist from the 2000s.

Blaine began singing along to country karaoke tapes when he was 10 years old and by the time he was 13 years old, he learned how to play the guitar.

When he was a junior in high school, Blaine and his family made a trip to Nashville, Tennessee where he recorded a demo CD composed mainly of cover songs; the CD also included a song that he had co-written with his school teacher.

After Nashville songwriters Rory Lee Feek and Tim Johnson discovered Blaine’s demo CD, they flew him back to Nashville again to hold a recording session with him.
In My High SchoolIn 2004, Blaine released his debut album, “In My High School” on Feek & Johnson’s record label, Giantslayer Records. The title song peaked at #60 on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles & Tracks, staying on the chart for a week.

After “In My High School” began receiving airplay, Sandy Conklin (an employee at the BMG record label in Seattle, Washington) sent a note to Joe Galante, the head of the BMG labels in Nashville, recommending Blaine. After Galante auditioned Blaine, he agreed to sign him to their affliated label, BNA Records by the end of the year.

Hear’Say

Hear'SayHear’Say was a British pop music group that was created through the ITV reality television show “Popstars” in 2001.

The group originally consisted of Danny Foster (born on May 3, 1979 in Hackney, England), Myleene Klass (born Myleene Angela Klass on April 6, 1978 in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England), Kym Marsh (born Kimberley Gail Marsh on June 13, 1976 in Whiston, Merseyside, England), Suzanne Shaw (born Suzanne Christine Crowshaw on September 29, 1981 in Bury, Greater Manchester, England) and Noel Sullivan (born Noel-John Hayes on July 28, 1980 in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom).
Pure And SimpleIn March of 2001, Hear’Say released their debut single, “Pure and Simple” which topped the UK Singles chart, selling just under 550,000 copies and becoming the fastest-selling debut single at the time (as well as the fastest-selling, non-charity single).

The song was certified 2Ă— Platinum in the United Kingdom and also topped the charts in Scotland & New Zealand (where it was certified Gold).
PopstarsDuring that same year, the group released their debut album, “Popstars” which topped the UK Albums chart, selling 306,631 copies during its first week, breaking another record for the fastest-selling debut album.

Hear’Say became the first act in UK chart history to top the UK Singles chart and the UK Albums chart with their debut releases.
The Way To Your LoveIn June of 2001, the follow-up single “The Way to Your Love” became Hear’Say’s second number-one hit song, topping the U.K. Singles chart for a week and sold 75,514 copies during its first week.

The group were invited to perform at the 80th birthday celebrations of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. They went on to perform in the ITV show “Hear’Say It’s Saturday” which featured performances, sketches and celebrity guests.

In August of 2001, Hear’Say toured in the United Kingdom; they initially announced five dates which quickly sold out, causing them to schedule 30 more dates. However, the new dates struggled to sell out and hundreds of tickets remained unsold.
EverybodyWhile on tour, the group began recording their sophomore album, “Everybody” which was released in November of 2001. The album peaked at #24 on the UK Albums chart, selling just one fifth as many copies as their debut album.
EverybodysingleThe title song peaked at #4 on the UK Singles chart and managed to chart in Ireland where it peaked at #23 on the music charts. Despite its lack of success, Hear’Say’s sophomore album was certified Gold by the BPI over a decade after its release.

Tabloids began reporting that Kym Marsh (who gained attention due to her relationship with former “EastEnders” actor Jack Ryder) left Hear’Say following feuds with Myleene Klass, but a representative for the group denied the reports.

However, in January of 2002, Kym announced that she was leaving the group, later revealing that she often fought with Myleene and Noel Sullivan.

After Kim left Hear’Say, auditions were held to find her replacement and Johnny Shentall (born on September 3, 1978 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom) was chosen to be part of the group.

However, there was some controversy when it was revealed that Johnny was a member of a short-lived pop group called Boom! and was a back-up dancer for Hear’Say. In March of 2002, the group cancelled their planned arena tour in order to allow Johnny time to “settle in” with them.

Hear’Say later began working on their third studio album. In the summer of 2002, they toured the UK radio roadshows circuit where they were constantly booed and abused by members of the public; a performance in Brighton was cut short due to the animosity concerned.

During the tour, Hear’Say’s vehicle was threatened by an apparently armed man at a motorway service area on the M1 motorway in Leicestershire; the man (who was later arrested) claimed that he was playing a prank on the group.
Lovin' Is EasyIn August of 2002, the group released their only single featuring Johnny Shentall called “Lovin’ is Easy” which peaked at #6 on the UK Singles chart, making it their lowest-charting single to date.

Media reports suggested that the group’s record label, Polydor Records wanted the single to reach at least the UK Top 5, but following the disappointing sales of the single, it was believed that Hear’Say would be dropped from their record label, but no official word came from the label confirming it.

On October 1, 2002, Hear’Say disbanded, citing “abuse from the public” as the main reason. They admitted to being a fan that had passed and their popularity had been eclipsed by another music group, Liberty X (which consisted of five other finalists from “Popstars”).

Myleene Klass went on to record a classical album for Polydor Records’ classical division called “Moving On” (which was released in 2003). She later became a presenter on “CD: UK” and presented the breakfast show on Classic FM in 2006. She has also written a book called “My Bump and Me: From Morning Sickness to Motherhood – An Honest Diary of My Pregnancy” about her experiences being pregnant.

These days, Myleene has continued to work as a a television and radio presenter in the United Kingdom. She currently presents Smooth Classic every weekend from 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

Myleene married her husband, Graham Quinn in October of 2011 and they have two daughters: Ava Bailey and Hero Harper; however, in April of 2013, she was granted a divorce.

Danny Foster currently performs as part of his own music group called Danny Foster & The Big Soul Corporation. He auditioned for “The Voice UK” in 2013, but wasn’t chosen by any of the judges.

Suzanne Shaw has gone on to have a successful career as a singer and actress on stage, appearing in productions such as “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, “The Rocky Horror Show”, “White Christmas” and “Chicago.”

She also starred in the British soap opera “Emmerdale” & won the third series of the ITV skating show, “Dancing on Ice.” Suzanne is also the mother of two sons, Corey and Rafferty.

These days, Noel Sullivan works as stage performer, appearing in productions such as the West End musical “Love Shack”, “What A Feeling,” the West End production of “Grease”, the nationwide tour of “Flashdance,” “We Will Rock You,” the UK tour of “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” and most recently, the UK premiere of “It’s Only Life” at the Union Theatre in London in 2018.
