4 By Four was an R&B group from New York during the mid-’80s. The group consisted of brothers Damen and Lance (from the Bronx), Jeraude Jackson (from the Bronx) and Steve Gray (from Queens).
In 1987, they released their only self-titled album which peaked at #141 on the Billboard 200 and #28 on Billboard’s R&B Albums chart.
The lead single, “Want You For My Girlfriend” peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #8 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 15 weeks.
The follow-up single, “Come Over” peaked at #10 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 14 weeks.
The last single from the album, “Don’t Put the Blame on Me” peaked at #72 on Billboard’s Hot Black Singles chart, staying on the chart for 8 weeks. Afterwards, it seemed as if the group faded into obscurity.

These days (according to research), Damen works as a songwriter, producer and vocal coach. He has worked with various artists such as Joe and Nicki Minaj, and was even a member of the Force MD’s. It’s unknown what the other members of the group are up to these days.
